Why Italian is hard to speak

Italian is welcoming to beginners and gets harder precisely where learners stop putting the work in: the subjunctive, pronoun combinations, and keeping up with speakers who are genuinely fast. Many people plateau at a comfortable phrasebook level and stay there for years. Getting past it requires conversations where you have to produce structures you would rather avoid.
