Why Mandarin Chinese is hard to speak

Most Mandarin study happens through reading, typing, and flashcards, none of which surface a tone error. Since a wrong tone is frequently a different word, learners can accumulate a large vocabulary and remain difficult to understand. Speaking with something that corrects tones in the moment is the only practical fix, and it tends to reveal errors in words you have known for months.
