Vera
Interview Prep

Your interview is a sales call. Treat it like one.

Deal stories, quota attainment, and the mock discovery call you will be asked to run.

AE interviews test the exact skill you are being hired for, live.

What Vera actually is

A phone call with someone who is not there. You say the thing out loud, they answer the way a real person would, and you get to do it again — as many times as it takes, with nobody listening.

1She calls youA real phone call, about ten seconds after you tap. Lock screen, headphones, car — wherever you take calls.
2She plays the other personNot a coach reading tips. Account Executive Interview Prep, with someone on the other end who answers back.
3She pushes when you are vagueFollow-up questions, interruptions when you ramble, and a straight read at the end on what landed.

“What if I am bad at it?”Everyone is, on the first one. That is the entire reason it happens here and not there.
“What if I do not know what to say?”She asks first and follows up on whatever you answer. You never start from a blank page.
“What if it is awkward?”It is, for about twenty seconds. Then it is a conversation, and nobody heard the twenty seconds.

Not practising doesn’t save you anything.

The ticket, the evening, the weeks of applying — all of it is spent before anyone says a word. The practice is the only cheap part, and the only part that changes how the rest goes.

What she'll actually ask

She asks these the way a real person would, then follows up on whatever you say.

  1. Walk me through your biggest deal. How did it actually close?
  2. Tell me about a deal you lost that you should have won.
  3. What was your quota and what did you attain?
  4. Run a discovery call with me. I am a skeptical VP of Ops.
  5. How do you decide when to walk away from a deal?
More about this one

Account executive interviews are unusually literal: they judge you on how you sell yourself, and most loops include a mock discovery or demo call. Deal stories need numbers, and quota history needs framing when the numbers were not great. Vera runs AE rounds over the phone, plays the prospect in a mock discovery, and pushes on the deal you lost, which is the round that separates offers.

What she listens for

Numbers or no numbersDeal stories without size, cycle length, or attainment read as unverifiable.
Discovery disciplineIn the mock call, whether you ask before you pitch.
Loss ownershipBlaming product or pricing for every loss is the fastest disqualifier.

“I pitched before asking a single question in the first mock. Embarrassing on a practice call, fatal in the real one.”

Common questions

Can Vera really run a mock discovery?

Yes — role-play is where a voice call is strongest. Give it an industry and a persona and it will stay in character.

What if I missed quota last year?

Practice the honest framing out loud. Attainment misses are survivable; evasive answers about them usually are not.

Does it cover SDR or sales manager interviews?

Yes with the right prompt — SDR loops focus on activity and resilience, manager loops on coaching and forecast accuracy.

What if I am bad at it?

Everyone is, on the first one. That is the entire reason it happens here and not there.

What if I do not know what to say?

She asks the first question and follows up on whatever you answer. You never start from a blank page.

What if it is awkward?

It is, for about twenty seconds. Then it is a conversation, and nobody heard the twenty seconds.
