Your first date is the most you have spoken out loud in three days.
Twenty minutes of conversation on Friday, cold, after a week of typing.
Fifteen minutes of talking beforehand is the difference, and it is free.
What Vera actually is
A phone call with someone who is not there. You say the thing out loud, they answer the way a real person would, and you get to do it again — as many times as it takes, with nobody listening.

Not practising doesn’t save you anything.
The ticket, the evening, the weeks of applying — all of it is spent before anyone says a word. The practice is the only cheap part, and the only part that changes how the rest goes.

What she'll actually ask
She asks these the way a real person would, then follows up on whatever you say.
- What have you been up to lately?
- How do you meet people these days?
- Tell me about your week without mentioning work.
- What does your day actually look like?
- You said your job is boring. Try again, make it interesting.
More about this one
Remote work removes the two things that historically produced relationships — meeting people incidentally, and daily practice at talking to them. The second one is underrated. If most of your week is typed rather than spoken, a first date is the most talking you have done in days, and it shows in the first ten minutes regardless of how interesting you are. Vera gives you low-stakes reps at speaking out loud, which is a smaller problem than the dating pool and a much more fixable one.
What she listens for
- dating as a remote worker
- work from home isolation
- social rust
- meeting people remote work
- conversation practice
- dating pool
- pre-date warm up
- talking out loud
“I had not said a sentence out loud in two days and then went straight to a date. Never again — now I do a call first.”

Common questions
Does talking out loud beforehand really help?
Most people notice a clear difference between the first and second half of a call. Doing that warm-up before the date rather than during it is the whole idea.
How long before the date?
Ten minutes an hour or two before works well. Immediately before can add pressure rather than remove it.
What if the problem is meeting people at all?
That part Vera cannot solve. It handles the being-rusty half, which is the half that shows up on the date.
What if I am bad at it?
Everyone is, on the first one. That is the entire reason it happens here and not there.
What if I do not know what to say?
She asks the first question and follows up on whatever you answer. You never start from a blank page.
What if it is awkward?
It is, for about twenty seconds. Then it is a conversation, and nobody heard the twenty seconds.
