Part 2 is two minutes and it feels like ten.

What Vera actually is

What she'll actually ask

She asks these the way a real person would, then follows up on whatever you say.

  1. Part 1 — tell me about where you live.
  2. Here is your card. One minute to prepare, then speak for two.
  3. You stopped at seventy seconds. What else could you have said?
  4. Part 3 — why do you think that has changed over time?
  5. Can you say that again with more precise vocabulary?

The IELTS speaking test has a rigid structure and a real examiner, and the long turn in Part 2 defeats people who are otherwise fluent — two minutes of uninterrupted speech on a card topic is much longer than it sounds. Practicing in the actual format matters more than general conversation. Vera runs all three parts by phone, times the long turn, and tells you where you ran out.

Common questions

Can it give me a band score?

It can indicate rough banding and point at your weakest criterion. Treat official practice tests as the benchmark.

How many practice tests?

Four or five full runs. The Part 2 stamina improves fast with repetition.

Does accent matter?

Clarity matters, accent much less. Pace and repetition of vocabulary affect your band far more.
