JLPT preparation runs on recognition, since the exam is multiple choice, and that produces a specific weakness: seeing a kanji and knowing roughly what it means while being unable to produce the reading. Verbal drilling closes that gap because there is nothing to recognize. Vera reads vocabulary and asks for readings and meanings by JLPT level, returning to whatever you miss.
